SVW goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino has joined Bundesliga 2 club SV Sandhausen on loan. The deal agreed between Werder and the Baden-Württemberg side will see the 26-year-old spend the rest of the 2020/21 season with the Bundesliga 2 club.

“It’s important for Kapi that he gets match practice, so we’ve agreed that this is the best solution for the time being. He’ll gain valuable experience in the second tier at Sandhausen. His departure does mean that we’ll need a back-up keeper in the meantime. In Eduardo Dos Santos Haesler, we’ve got a young and talented player who we have a lot of faith in, but ideally we’re looking to bring in an experienced third goalkeeper as well,” explained Werder’s sporting director Frank Baumann.

For the player himself, the loan provides a great opportunity to take the next step in his development. “I feel very much at home here in Bremen and I see my future at Werder as a part of the team. At the same time however, everyone at the club understands that I’m very eager to get as much match experience as possible. Because of this, the chance to join Sandhausen until the summer is ideal for me. I’m very thankful to everyone at Werder who’s made this opportunity possible for me.”

The nine-time international for Greece arrived at Osterdeich from Nottingham Forest in 2018 and has since made two Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites.
